With Valentine’s Day around the corner, here’s a simple, colourful and nutritious snack to share with a loved one or offer to the kids as a sweet little treat. These fruity skewers served with a creamy chocolate dip come from a dietitian’s creative idea—a fun and wholesome way to celebrate love with healthy food. Ingredients
Fruit skewers
- 12 hulled strawberries
- 18 grapes
- 18 blueberries
or other fruits of your choice (banana, melon, raspberries, etc.)
Chocolate dip
- 180 ml (¾ cup) 2 % M.F. cottage cheese (or plain Greek yogurt)
- 30 ml (2 tbsp) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 20 ml (4 tsp) natural peanut butter (or natural almond butter)
- 20 ml (4 tsp) maple syrup (or date purée)
- ½ scoop (15 ml / 1 tbsp) chocolate (or vanilla) protein powder*
Preparation
- Thread the fruit onto skewers, alternating colours. Set aside.
- In a food processor, add the cottage cheese, cocoa powder, nut butter, maple syrup and protein powder. Blend until smooth and creamy.
- Serve the skewers with the chocolate dip.
Notes
Keeps for 5 days in the refrigerator.
*If you don’t have protein powder, it can be omitted. In that case, adjust the sweetness of the dip by modifying the amount of maple syrup to taste.
